Why You Should Care For and Love Yourself – with Valentte

July 29, 2019 |

“All we need to be is who we are right now, holding ourselves in self-love.”

~ Nicole Barton

I’ve been through some really tough times recently, and the more tough life has felt, the easier I have seen it is to get dragged into a spiral of thinking that ‘life looks horrible forever.’  I’ve been deeply into my suffering at times, engrossed in it, feeling really miserable; and it’s unlike my true self because I know and I understand that life works like this, and that we can have a lighter experience, even of our suffering.  I know my experience of life comes entirely from my thinking (which at times can look very scary – especially if you’re a good story teller!).

I’m not saying our suffering doesn’t exist – it so does.  I’m just saying that we experience it in our own way through our own thinking.  I guess that just knowing this is how it works is what allows me to see that I am always okay, even in my worst times when I think I’m not, but I also appreciate that this is difficult to see when we forget as we are in it.  That’s what I’ve seen recently.  And so, life has humbled me, with a deeper appreciation and understanding of how life really works, offering me a gift to be able to see something more, again.  I learned so much these past few weeks, and perhaps one of the best lessons was to be here now, and love myself – and hold what is, in loving presence.

So, what better gift could the universe have offered than the gift of self-care?  The beautiful team over at Valentte make some amazing, organic and natural products for the home and skin.  Knowing I’m a sucker for essential oils, they kindly sent me some of their beautifully scented gifts to trial – and it really could not have come at a better time.

Sitting there and enjoying their beautiful aromas, really helped me to remember that all we really need when we are feeling stuck or sad, is to come back to ourselves.  We can do this simply by following what we love, and I just love essential oils and nature, so to be gifted this at a time when I’d been feeling rubbish was really beautiful.  It was a nice reminder that the world really does offer us what we need, when we need it.

Not only that, but it was a really lovely reminder that all I needed to do was tap back into my own truth.  When I remembered that there was still excitement out there, particularly in the gifts nature offers, I fell back into my knowing.  My inner wisdom remembered that I was supported and always okay; and all that brought me home was a little bit of loving self-care.

So, Valentte, thank you!  Thank you for your beautiful gift, and the reminder that nature has everything we need.  My favourite was your Jasmine and Rosewood candle, which I’ve been burning as a little reminder of my own inner light still being visible!  However, the Lemongrass and Rosemary room incense is also really beautiful, and I love that you have a choice of scents to lift or relax you.  I have been sniffing the Lemongrass and Rosemary one on in the morning to uplift me and remind my body to get going, and burning the Jasmine one at night to remind me it’s time to relax!

You see, my loves, all we really need, when we are in our suffering, is to come back to this present moment and find a little bit of joy – and the best way to do that is to find something that deeply resonates with your soul and run with that.  It might be a walk in nature, it might be essential oils or candles, or it might be journalling or it might even be just resting in the deepest quiet when you are finally ready to hear your wisdom – and it will vary, moment to moment.  Valentte, you offered me this lovely gift of self-love to tap myself back into the quiet space.  Thank you!

So, if you’re feeling the suffering at the moment, my advice is this; know that it is being created by all our our stories in the mind, but see that it is okay for you not to feel that as truth in this moment.  Know that all you really need to do, is hold yourself in self-love, allow yourself to be exactly as you are and tap right back into your soul.

Enjoy my loves – and know it will soon be different when you can return to seeing the truth.

Love,

Life Mentor, Nicole Barton, is something of a unicorn within the self-help industry for her candid notion that nobody needs self-help. She is a breath of fresh air in her admission that while anything that leads us into soul-led expression is useful to shift us from our heads and into our hearts, none of these practices are prerequisites to peace, as long as people reconnect to the simple truth of who they are. Nicole supports people in finding freedom from suffering through workshops, global retreats and one-to-ones, and is working on her first book.
